Through art, students can motivate a community to make a positive change. Safe Routes to Schools’ Art Contests invite children to help showcase the positive impact of walking or rolling to school on student health, the environment, traffic and more. Through their art, students encourage others to walk, bike, scooter, or skateboard to and from school, a friend’s house, or more.

Art Contest Inspiration

Solano County Safe Routes to School organizes an annual poster contest where students can choose from a variety of transportation safety messages. The winner’s artwork is featured in the following year’s Safe Routes to School calendar.

Portland Bureau of Transportation’s Bike Lane Art Contest invites students to design art for the bike lanes. Art from the winners from each age category is installed by city street striping crews.

Sonoma County Safe Routes to School hosts an annual Bookmark Design & Haiku Contest where students compete to have their work distributed to schools and the Sonoma County Library.
